8th District Analysis
Posted by redvirginia on March 21, 2008
The 8th district is a district that is drawn for the Democrats. Jim Moran has had a stranglehold over the district for a number of years. This year, everyone thought that Mark Ellmore would be the nominee but a NEW force has entered the field- that is AMIT SINGH.
Amit Singh is a conservatives godsend. He is bringing to the table a platform that most Americans want to see. He supports more transparency in congress as well as an end to the war in Iraq. He brings solutions to transportation in NOVA as well as opposition to the Real ID Act . Amit also supports following the constitution- many congressman have forgot about our governing document. Also, Amit has raised mroe than $21,000 this month with a goal of $25,000. Ellmore claims to have beaten him with raising $30,000 but it was only in pledges. Amit is actually getting the grassroots support that Ellmore isn’t.
His opposition is Mark Ellmore. Ellmore is more of the establishment Republican and not a part of the movement conservatives that Amit is. Ellmore discusses being the candidate that supports limited government but supports national regulations on gay marriage. Shouldn’t a limited national government allow the states to make those decisions as Virginia has already done???
There is also Diane Kelly. Don’t know much about her other than she is running.
This November, Virginians in the 8th district need a grassroots conservative candidate. We need someone who can bring the issues to the table and bring about solutions. We need a candidate that can destroy Jim Moran in November and restore conservatism to the 8th. That candidate is Amit Singh.
Help Amit by visiting his website and signing up to volunteer.

Do you support an end to the war in Iraq?

Amit is clearly the best candidate to win the 8th District. His policy stances on limiting the government and personal liberties were enough to win an endorsement from me. For more on Ellmore, I clearly laid out the case on my blog today. The only issue that I do not agree with Amit on is the War in Iraq.

This an excellent piece. I agree, Amit Singh is really getting noticed. It’s comforting to see so many people on board with his message of true limited government.

Seriously? This guy is Ron Paul reincarnated. He’s not going to win. What Ellmore has going for him in this gerrymandered district is that he doesn’t sound like he came out of far right field. The problem with a federalized approach to keeping marriage intact is that, according to the Constitution, states must recognize marriages performed in any other state. So a candidate who “follows the Constitution” would not only support this doomed federalist approach to keeping traditional marriage, but then do a total flip-flop and support gay marriage in states that have outlawed it b/c the Consitution says so. Ellmore is smart enough to realize this and therefore supports the federal ban on gay marriage.

Archimedes,
Are you kidding? Ellmore is no different than ANY other Republican candidate who came before him.
And, there is no problem with a federal approach to marriage. The Constitution doesn’t require states to recognize marriages. If you think I’m fooling, read it and you’ll see. Seriously, I’m not kidding. Article IV, Sec 2 empowers Congress to regulate it and that’s why we have DOMA. It doesn’t say that one state has to recognize it all.
It’s not a doomed approach and it works. I heard Amit Singh at a GOP meeting and he seems genuine. He doesn’t hide behind buzzphrases and he doesn’t act like a Ron Paul kook or come across as far right. In fact, he said he doesn’t see things as left or right but up or down. I like it and quite frankly, I’m leaning towards him.

I’m sorry, but I think that, reading this after the primary, this is the funniest thing I have ever read. “Amit Singh is a conservative Godsend!!!” Oh, this is perfect.
